Captains Leadership Outline

  • Be responsible for your team; it's actions, it's attitudes, and it's attendance.
  • Contact all players prior to a scheduled game both one week prior and one day prior. (Email, Text, Phone; just contact them and you will be surprised how powerful this can be.)
  • Contact absent players the day after and one day prior to the next scheduled game.
  • Be in constant communication with league coordinators about changes to your roster, player
substitution, escalating situations, or issues that need attention.
  • During BYE weeks, be responsible for coordinating with your teammates to serve as scorekeepers.
  • Participate with a servant heart and be active in making this a first class league.
(Set up gym, pick up trash, gather game balls, etc.)
  • Work to develop a real relationship with every member of my team.
  • Pray for and seek opportunities to share your testimony and biblical principles with all players.
  • Make the league fun! You are the face of Shepherd Sports!
  • Throughout the season, find a time to have a conversation with each and every participant on your team. This can be done in person or over the phone (sorry folks, emails won’t work for this). Conversations can be ministry based but should not be intrusive. It is recommended that you choose one participant a week and pursue him or her to find out what is going on in their life and where they stand spiritually with God.
  • Share praises and prayer requests with us and others in the league.
  • Seek to fulfill all above mentioned requirements of a Shepherd Sports Captain.
