Hiking

Our HIKING CLUB is open to everyone regardless of age and fitness. We meet once a month, on the Second Saturday of each month (unless otherwise noted). Our hikes take place at different trails around the city and are always within an hour drive of Shepherd Church. We have 3 different experience levels that range from the casual and beginner hiker to the more experienced and fit hikers. Every hike will include group leaders and sweepers so that no one will get lost or left behind. Our goal is to make sure that everyone has an amazing experience and is able to connect with God’s creation in a fun and faith based environment.

About Stunt Road & Backbone Trail:
We will start a bit up stunt road then the normal trailhead starting point. We will cross the main road once until we connect to the backbone trail. From there, pick up the Backbone Trail and hike to the top of Saddle Peak, the sixth tallest summit in the range, where wide views over Malibu/West LA and the Pacific can be enjoyed.

From the 101 Freeway:
Exit Valley Circle Blvd and HEAD SOUTH toward Ventura Blvd (most likely left)
Continue onto Mulholland Dr for 0.6 mi
Turn RIGHT onto Valmar Rd
Continue onto Old Topanga Canyon Rd
Then turn RIGHT onto Mulholland Hwy and continue for 3.8 mi
Turn LEFT onto Stunt Rd and continue for 1.8 mi until you come to the paved/dirt parking lot on your right with a sign that says "Stunt Ranch" with a fence gate next to it

Parking:
There is free parking right at the meeting spot with lots of space. Please do not get this confused with the parking lot at the lower part of stunt. You will need to go 1.8 miles once you turn left on Stunt to get to our meeting spot.

  • Intermediate:     0/5-6 Miles within 2 hours - 0/1000ft+
  • Advanced:         0/8-12 Miles within 3 hours - 0/2000ft+

What to Bring:

  • Hydration: Water + Electrolytes (Minimum 40oz. Recommended 60-70oz)
  • Nutrition: Gu, Chomps, Cliff Bars (Recommend at least 3-4 items. Eat 1 item every hour)
  • Sun Protection -Sun Screen Lotion -Lip Balm -Sunglasses -Hat
  • Good Trail Shoes
  • Navigation (Download Offline maps from Google)*not necessary but recommended
  • Radio(s)*not necessary but recommended
  • Hydration Pack*not necessary but recommended
  • Fully Charged Phone (so you can take awesome pictures & videos)
